identifying trends
Legal
& Ethical issues
LEGAL
In terms of
legal issues, these tends to be about who owns the rights to something, or
whether you are slandering (saying something about someone that is not true),
or sometimes it can be a legal issue of making sure your content is not
breaking the law (as in
there is no suffering to animals depicted)
there is no suffering to animals depicted)
ETHICAL
Ethics are
more of a minefield and there are certain ethical considerations that we have
in the west that are important to understand. Ethics is about what society
views as right.
Such as –
is there a balance between male/female genders
If there
are, are these stereotypical roles (eg
powerful and strong male, weak female
often dressed provocatively)
Is there
swearing, are there weapons?
Southpark
is controversial because a lot of people disapprove of its ethics. However, the
producers might argue that it is for a small cult audience who are adult enough
to know what is right and what is wrong.
What are
the legal and ethical issues of your production and can you justify them?
LEGAL
Issue
|
Solved or
justified?
|
The name
of my game might have been taken.
|
To solve
this, I will have to copyright my game and its name to stop other people from
suing me or stealing my game idea.
|
Stolen soundtracks
to put over the top of my game.
|
I have
used sound tracks that are royalty free so I have all the rights to use it in
my game without any legal issues.
|
The game principle
may have already been used/ made
Stealing people’s
characters
|
The idea
for my game is original (own I.P) I have made sure I have created everything
myself so I have no worries about stealing other people’s creations.
I have
created my own characters so I don’t have to worry about legal issues
|
ETHICAL
Issue
|
Solved or justified?
|
A lot of
violence and swearing
|
Don’t have
any violence and or sexual content in the game so it doesn’t include any
ethical issues
|
Making a Stereotype
for a certain group of people or a person
|
I won’t stereotype
the characters to offend a person by making them the same gender.
In my game,
I have stereotyped my characters by making them both male which can be seen
as an ethical issue but I have spotted the issue and have added a new character
that is female
|
Avoid Sexism
|
I have tried
my best to make the game equal with genders so I have left out any sexist
comments or views.
|
Avoid
showing social habits such as smoking, drinking alcohol and taking drugs
|
To keep
the game child friendly, I am going to leave out drugs, alcohol and smoking
so the people playing the game doesn’t make these social habits acceptable.
|
